Green Grass Grows
by Charles Monette
landscape creamed beige brown
held tight by earth
wild clumps dead, tufting about
field’s doldrums await verdant customs
green light’s first burst reborn
tranquil calms hold waiting
hope’s burning rebirth content in absorption
melting snow’s final drips
spring rain’s fingertips
pressing, compressing wet soggy surrounds
finally, warm in sunlight’s presence
grouchy coloring agents stir dormant grasslands awake
plant cell pigments, heeding clarion’s greenery
fulfill photosynthesis’ essential five forms
chlorophyll transforms radiant energy and green grass grows
